KGM Motors - previously known as Ssangyong - has launched the Torres EVX in the U.K.: A battery electric vehicle (BEV) sharing the same platform as the combustion-powered Torres.
The Torres EVX features a futuristic design while maintaining the robust and practical nature of a traditional SUV. The car's futuristic quality comes courtesy of modern, confident lines running across its body, paired with distinctive elements such as the horizontal LED daytime running lights. Blended with this "urban sophistication" are the car's purported off-road capabilities.
Similar to the 'normal' Torres, KGM states that the interior of the Torres EVX is sleek and spacious, with an emphasis on driver visibility and convenience.
The ergonomic dashboard and dial 12.3-inch digital interface are designed to minimise clutter while maximising intuitiveness for the driver. Meanwhile, the spacious interior boasts comfort and a contemporary design, both of which are further complemented by standard features ranging Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and wireless phone charging.
The Torres EVX also promises to be quite the practical car, offering segment-leading space with up to 1,662-litres of lugging capacity with its rear seats folded. On top of this, the vehicle boasts a towing capacity of up to 1.5 tonnes, and also competitive approach and departure angles for off-road driving.
As mentioned, the Torres EVX is built on the same versatile platform as the combustion-powered Torres platform, which - KGM claims - allows the brand to embrace its SUV and 4x4 heritage while harnessing the latest in EV technology.
Unlike the Torres, however, which is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the Torres EVX is fitted with a '3-in-1' EV motor system. Interestingly, the car is powered by BYD's renowned Blade Battery - utilising 'cell to pack' technology - which gives it a WLTP-rated range of 461km on a single charge.
The Torres EVX also packs an integrated 3-in-1 power conversion module, and a shift-by-wire toggle switch for gear control.
KGM believes that the mix of innovative technology, alongside class-leading load space, makes the Torres EVX a highly efficient choice for city driving and off-road adventuring by merging electric power with performance. It is unclear if the car will eventually make its way to Singapore.
