Back in 2023, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would be committing an additional €24 million (SGD $34 million) to society, environmental protection and culture in not only Stuttgart but also the region.
Now, the German luxury brand is set to reinforce these climate efforts even further - with the announcement that it will be supporting the Climate Chance Moors project, which aims to conserve and renature moorlands in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Specifically, Mercedes-Benz aims to supply the project with €5 million (SGD $7 million) from now, up to 2028. The fund aims to make a relevant contribution to the preservation of natural CO2 sinks and resource conservation in the region. As mentioned earlier, a large bulk of it will be targeted at the rewetting and renaturation of moorlands.
On top of the monetary donation, Mercedes-Benz will also donate two vehicles to support the project. One vehicle will be used for the mobility of the Moor Competence Networking Centre, while the other will be used for transporting the "MoorMobil": A mobile knowledge workshop for environmental education.
Mercedes-Benz will also continue its support towards the Global Nature Fund, which protects mangrove forests. The marque has extended its funding with €750,000 (SGD $1 million) pledged to a new project for community-based mangrove conservation in five countries: India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Philippines.
Worldwide, Mercedes-Benz states that it is involved with environmental conservation efforts in various ways, beyond its core carmaking business. The company has been active in supporting projects committed to environmental sustainability, and promotes initiatives which strengthen community empowerment.
